Happy Birthday Ashkay Kumar May God Bless You......

His journey has been a long and arduous one. He studied martial arts in Bangkok and worked as a chef. He then came back to Mumbai, where he started teaching martial arts. One of his students happened to be a photographer and recommended him to pursue modelling.
The anonymous Rajiv Bhatia began his journey as Akshay Kumar who then slowly began to work his way up to evolve into one of the most talented stars in the industry. Unlike most of his peers Akshay didn't have any godfather to launch him.
Action hero
First few of his films were box office debacles. Akshay anyway got noticed for dancing skills and his daredevil stunts. His first true hit film was Khiladi (1992) and although it was a success, the top banners continued to be elusive until Yeh Dillagi (1993), which not only got him recognition but also marked his position as a top league actor.
Though Jai Kishen and Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1993) were quite successful at the box office, it was Mohra (1993) and Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995) that catapulted Akshay to fame and established his position as one of the top most actors. With a series of Khiladi movies including the Khiladiyon Ke Khiladi (1996), Akshay became the quintessential 'action hero'. He had carved a niche for himself.
Comic and tragic caper
He was now ready to break that mould. In 1997 with Mr. & Mrs. Khiladi, Dil To Pagal Hai and Aflatoon, he attempted new genres. Another attempt at a distinct role was with Ajnabee (2001), in which he played the villain. He was appreciated by audiences and critics alike. He even won his first Filmfare Award under the Best Villain category.
Romantic lead
Dhadkan (2000), where he starred opposite Shilpa Shetty reaffirmed the fact that aside from being an action hero, Akshay Kumar was also the perfect romantic hero.
Donning all hats
In the same year came another memorable performance with the film Hera Pheri (2000) which brought to the forefront his strength in comedy and superb timing as he held his ground with the seasoned Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty. His comic performances in films such as Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Garam Masala (2005), Phir Hera Pheri (2006) and Jaan-E-Mann (2006) met with critical acclaim.
Midas touch
His success further rose in 2007, when he starred in four consecutive commercial hits - Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Welcome. He continued his golden touch with Singh Is Kinng.
Low tide
In 2009, his Chandni Chowk to China opposite Deepika Padukone and Eight by Ten, both were critical and commercial failures to box office. His latest Kambakkht Ishq has done well despite severe criticism.
Crystal-ball gazing
His forthcoming films include Anthony D'Souza's Blue, Priyadarshan's De Dana Dan, Vipul Shah's Action Replay, Deepa Mehta's Komagata Maru and Nikhil Advani's Patiala House.
Family wise
During his career, Akshay Kumar was romantically linked with several of his co-stars, namely Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, Pooja Batra and even Rekha. He finally married Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of veteran actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, in 2001 and is today a proud father of a son named Aarav. He is seven years old.
Awards etc.
Today, Akshay is one of the most sought after actors, who command a strong box-office opening. In 2008, the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Law on him in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shri.

Happy Birthday Asha Bhosle May God Bless You..........

From yesteryears' actresses Madhubala, Helen and Asha Parekh to the new-age heroines like Urmila Matondkar and Kareena Kapoor, are all bound by a common thread - the evergreen voice of Asha Bhosle, who turned 76 on Tuesday.
Considered one of the most versatile singers of all times, this Padma Vibhushan awardee has crooned more than 12,000 songs.
On the occasion of the vivacious singer's birthday, let's go down memory lane to remember some of the her all-time hits.
Aaiye Meherban - The sensuous number picturised on then screen goddess Madhubala and Ashok Kumar in the 1958 film "Howrah Bridge" has the same magic effect today on listeners as it did five decades ago.
Jaaiye aap kahan - A beautiful and soulful romantic number picturised on veteran actress Asha Parekh and Biswajeet, the song from the film Mere Sanam (1965) is one of the best songs of Asha Bhosle. Her silken vocals instantly strike a chord with the listeners.
Raat Akeli Hai - When we hear this sensual naughty number, it sounds an easy one, but it was difficult to sing as Asha had to change the pace - from slow to fast while singing the song from the film "Jewel Thief" (1976). But she did a great job and it still finds place on music lovers' favourite list.
O mere Sona re - A playful romantic song from Teesri Manzil (1968) represents Asha's light-hearted, free flowing singing style. It was highly appreciated.
Piya tu - Asha always gave that extra zing to her voice while singing cabaret numbers, and Piya tu from the film Caravaan (1971) is one of the best among such songs. In fact, it was the catalyst in making Asha the queen of cabaret numbers. Her style of singing took the track to another pedestal.
Dum maro dum - A cult song, something very different from the usual songs created at that time.
The versatile singer changes her usual voice for this gypsy track in Hare Krishna Hare Rama (1971). Free flowing yet powerful, it showed a completely diverse side of Asha.
Chura liya hai tumne - A romantic melody from the film Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973), the song has been a hit for decades. It still appeals to music lovers of all ages, making it an evergreen number.
Asha's honey-tucked voice has done wonders for this composition, making it a hot favourite even after 36 years of its release.
Yeh mera dil - Pacy, hip with a strong musical backing, the song from "Don" (1978) is still regarded as one of the best songs of the film. It seems that no one could have done a better job than Asha. The song is energetic and full on punch.
Dil cheez kya hai - Apart from cabaret numbers and romantic songs, Asha also proved her mettle in singing ghazals. A classic, Dil cheez kya hai from Umrao Jaan (1981) is a ghazal that pulls at one's heart strings.
The song marked a bit of a departure from Asha's fast-paced avatar. A classically influenced song, this one is one of the milestones in the singer's career.
Mera kuch samaan - A song that was ahead of its times, it pits Asha in a league apart from her contemporaries. Beautifully composed by R D Burman and penned by Gulzar, the lilting melody from the film Ijaazat (1987) proved Asha's versatility in the true sense. Soft music and complete focus on the vocals, made it one of Asha's best songs.
Yayi re yayi re - A 62-year-old Asha Bhosle sung this song in Rangeela (1995), which was picturised on Urmila Matondkar, who was only 21 years old that time. Her voice oozed freshness and punch even after so many years. Needless to say, the song was a big hit.

Happy Birthday Shobha Khote May God Bless You........

It was only natural that Shobha Khote strayed into show business. Her father, Nandu Khote, was a star on stage and in the silent movies. Durga Khote, a famous movie personality of the yesteryear, was her aunt. The huge family home at Bombay's Chowpatty was always full of guests.
"I had a happy, carefree childhood," she says. "Ours was a big, joint family and most of my cousins were boys. I used to play with them, run around, climb trees and was an acknowledged tomboy." She studied at St Teresa's Convent, Girgaum, and graduated in English Literature from Wilson College.
Life in college was quite exciting to Khote and her brother Viju, another well-known stage, TV and screen actor. She took to swimming and cycling, excelled in both games and set up a new record for the one mile in cycling.
"My family was sports-minded," recalls Khote. "Father had built a gymnasium in the house itself. Many of his friends spent time there exercising. I Lent a lot from him. He taught that one can learn hard work, sincerity and team spirit from sports."
Both at school and college, Khote made occasional appearances on stage.
It was fun, but I just took it casually," she says. As Khote made her name in sports, her photographs began appearing in the newspapers and magazines. Well-known director Amiya Chakraborty sent his distributor friend, Kamath, to invite Khote for a screen test. Khote recalls with a giggle, "When Kamathsaab arrived, I was in tomboy outfit, with hair flying all round. He did not think much of me and reported back to Amiyada," Fortunately, Amiya Chakraborty was not convinced and after meeting her, cast her in his Seema.
The role was a challenge. Seema, which starred Nutan and Balraj Sahni was not the run-of-the-mill Hindi movie, and Khote was pitted against two highly sensitive and intelligent artists. But she came out with flying colors. "Amiyada told me he wanted a different kind of actress for the role, who would be natural. I fitted the bill. In fact, he did not even give me screen test," says Khote.
She also had a score to settle with veteran actress Leela Chitnis, who along with her two songs, was producing a movie. Chitnis offered Khote the lead role, on condition she would not work elsewhere for the next five years.
"My father did not agree to this condition," she recalled. "In fact, I had cut my hair for the role and even rehearsed enthusiastically for some weeks. And when they dropped me, I wanted to show them the loss was theirs."
Filmistan offered her roles in Paying Guest and Champakali. PG was a big hit but Khote did not enjoy her role, which was too negative for her liking. "I disliked the role so much that I refused to watch the movie?" She saw it on video much later.
A sportswomen, did she enjoy acting?
Okay, she nods. "Basically, I was fun-loving and liked to be with people. Because of my family background, I had no problems in the film world."
She did another film, Dekh Kabira Na Roya with Amiya Chakraborty, who later died of a heart attack. It wasa shattering blow, because Chakraborty had been her friend, philosopher and guide.
"He was very good in casting," recalls Khote. "Even top stars like Dilip Kumar wanted to work with him and gave off their best in his films."
It was Chakraborty also who found she had a flair for comedy. Even her serious roles in his films had comic touches which were highly appreciated. And when Chhoti Bahen, an L V Prasad release from Madras, turned out to be a mega hit, Khote was earmarked for comic roles. And her famous pairing with comedian Mehmood began.
For the next six years, films starring Shobha Khote, Mehmood and Dhumal were highly popular and did roaring business at the box office. Sasural, Dil Ek Mandir, Dil Tera Diwana, Bharosa and several other films celebrated jubilees.
Even Khote's negative role have often been tinged with comedy, a case in point being the super hit, Ek Duje Ke Liye.
Her constant pairing with Mehmood were also grist for film industry gossip. Khote laughed.
"I know about it," she admitted. "Yes, we were together in so many films that people gossiped about us. But there was a wide cultural differences between us. Of course, I knew him very well but we were nothing but co-stars."
As tea arrived, we discussed the changing role for comedy on Hindi screen. Khote pointed out that comedians like Gope, Yakub and Bhagwan had been popular them having to resort to buffoonery. Again, during the 1960's and 1970's, the comedy on the Hindi screen was clean and depended mostly on comic situations.
