Happy Birthday Shobha Khote May God Bless You........

It was only natural that Shobha Khote strayed into show business. Her father, Nandu Khote, was a star on stage and in the silent movies. Durga Khote, a famous movie personality of the yesteryear, was her aunt. The huge family home at Bombay's Chowpatty was always full of guests.
"I had a happy, carefree childhood," she says. "Ours was a big, joint family and most of my cousins were boys. I used to play with them, run around, climb trees and was an acknowledged tomboy." She studied at St Teresa's Convent, Girgaum, and graduated in English Literature from Wilson College.
Life in college was quite exciting to Khote and her brother Viju, another well-known stage, TV and screen actor. She took to swimming and cycling, excelled in both games and set up a new record for the one mile in cycling.
"My family was sports-minded," recalls Khote. "Father had built a gymnasium in the house itself. Many of his friends spent time there exercising. I Lent a lot from him. He taught that one can learn hard work, sincerity and team spirit from sports."
Both at school and college, Khote made occasional appearances on stage.
It was fun, but I just took it casually," she says. As Khote made her name in sports, her photographs began appearing in the newspapers and magazines. Well-known director Amiya Chakraborty sent his distributor friend, Kamath, to invite Khote for a screen test. Khote recalls with a giggle, "When Kamathsaab arrived, I was in tomboy outfit, with hair flying all round. He did not think much of me and reported back to Amiyada," Fortunately, Amiya Chakraborty was not convinced and after meeting her, cast her in his Seema.
The role was a challenge. Seema, which starred Nutan and Balraj Sahni was not the run-of-the-mill Hindi movie, and Khote was pitted against two highly sensitive and intelligent artists. But she came out with flying colors. "Amiyada told me he wanted a different kind of actress for the role, who would be natural. I fitted the bill. In fact, he did not even give me screen test," says Khote.
She also had a score to settle with veteran actress Leela Chitnis, who along with her two songs, was producing a movie. Chitnis offered Khote the lead role, on condition she would not work elsewhere for the next five years.
"My father did not agree to this condition," she recalled. "In fact, I had cut my hair for the role and even rehearsed enthusiastically for some weeks. And when they dropped me, I wanted to show them the loss was theirs."
Filmistan offered her roles in Paying Guest and Champakali. PG was a big hit but Khote did not enjoy her role, which was too negative for her liking. "I disliked the role so much that I refused to watch the movie?" She saw it on video much later.
A sportswomen, did she enjoy acting?
Okay, she nods. "Basically, I was fun-loving and liked to be with people. Because of my family background, I had no problems in the film world."
She did another film, Dekh Kabira Na Roya with Amiya Chakraborty, who later died of a heart attack. It wasa shattering blow, because Chakraborty had been her friend, philosopher and guide.
"He was very good in casting," recalls Khote. "Even top stars like Dilip Kumar wanted to work with him and gave off their best in his films."
It was Chakraborty also who found she had a flair for comedy. Even her serious roles in his films had comic touches which were highly appreciated. And when Chhoti Bahen, an L V Prasad release from Madras, turned out to be a mega hit, Khote was earmarked for comic roles. And her famous pairing with comedian Mehmood began.
For the next six years, films starring Shobha Khote, Mehmood and Dhumal were highly popular and did roaring business at the box office. Sasural, Dil Ek Mandir, Dil Tera Diwana, Bharosa and several other films celebrated jubilees.
Even Khote's negative role have often been tinged with comedy, a case in point being the super hit, Ek Duje Ke Liye.
Her constant pairing with Mehmood were also grist for film industry gossip. Khote laughed.
"I know about it," she admitted. "Yes, we were together in so many films that people gossiped about us. But there was a wide cultural differences between us. Of course, I knew him very well but we were nothing but co-stars."
As tea arrived, we discussed the changing role for comedy on Hindi screen. Khote pointed out that comedians like Gope, Yakub and Bhagwan had been popular them having to resort to buffoonery. Again, during the 1960's and 1970's, the comedy on the Hindi screen was clean and depended mostly on comic situations.

Jaswant Singh (born January 3, 1938) is an Indian politician and member of parliament from Darjeeling parliamentary constituency. He is from the Indian State of Rajasthan and was an officer in the Indian Army in the 1960s and is an alumnus of Mayo College and the National Defence Academy (India), Khadakwasla. He served as Finance minister in the short-lived government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which lasted just from May 16, 1996, to June 1, 1996. After Vajpayee became Prime Minister again two years later, he became Minister for External Affairs of India, serving from December 5, 1998 until July 1, 2002. Responsible for foreign policy, he dealt with high tensions between India and Pakistan. In July 2002 he became Finance Minister again, switching posts with Yashwant Sinha. He served as Finance Minister until the defeat of the Vajpayee government in May 2004 and was instrumental in defining and pushing through the market-friendly reforms of the government. Known for his moderate political views, he is a self-described liberal democrat even though the Bharatiya Janata Party is often described as a right-wing nationalist organization. He was conferred the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award for the year 2001. On 19 August 2009, he was expelled from BJP after criticism over his remarks in his book Jinnah - India, Partition, Independence.[1]
He is one of the few Indian politicians to have been the Minister for Defence, Finance and External Affairs.
He started the new government of Vajpayee, which lasted its full term, as the External Affairs Minister and later on switched his ministry to Finance with Yashwant Sinha. He was also the Defence Minister when George Fernandes was forced to resign after the Tehelka exposure.
Mr. Singh is widely regarded for his handling of relations with the United States which were strained after the 1998 Indian nuclear tests but which ameliorated soon after culminating in the visit of U.S. President Clinton to India. His skill as a negotiator and diplomat during talks with the United States has been well acknowledged by his U.S. counterpart Strobe Talbott.
Jaswant Singh is also the most influential person in the BJP not from a RSS background.
Jaswant Singh has been criticized by Political parties frequently for escorting terrorist to Kandhar, Afghanistan who were released by Government of India in exchange of passengers from the hijacked Indian Airlines plane. However, an all party meeting was called by the Indian government during that time and the decision taken was mutual by bringing all political parties in confidence.
In 2009 general election, he won as a candidate of BJP from Darjeeling parliamentary constituency under the state of west Bengal. He replaced the already declared candidate of BJP Mr. Dawa Sherpa, an ex IPS officer.
His candidature was the outcome of long political discussion between BJP and Gorkha Janamukti Morcha(GJM), an outfit demanding separate statehood for Hilly and Foothills of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts in the name of Gorkhaland.
The outfit, presumably having good support base in hills, offered its support in the election to different political wings including Indian National Congress, BJP or NCP of Mr. P A Sangma in Darjeeling. In return, they wanted inclusion of the demand of separate Gorkhaland statehood in the parties Election Manifesto. They have also put an additional condition for BJP to replace their declared candidate Mr. Sherpa.
After lot of turmoils and discussion, on the 2nd April late evening, finally BJP declared its decision to go with GJM. It was also accepted to give sympathetic consideration to Gorkhaland issue. Against this, GJM offered their support to BJP in two additional adjoining PCs in foothills- Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri.

Rajiv Kapoor (born 25 August 1962) is an Indian film actor, producer, director and a member of the famous Kapoor Family.
He is the youngest son of famous actor/director Raj Kapoor.
He had a short stint in the Hindi film industry, acting in only 13 films. His first film was Ek jaan hain hum (1983), with Divya Rana, Shammi Kapoor, Pran, and Gulshan Grover. His next film was Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985), directed by his father Raj Kapoor. This was Raj Kapoor's last film. He was not as successful as his other brothers Randhir and Rishi, but he is noted for his role in Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985) starring opposite Mandakini which was one of the biggest hits of the year. He acted in a string of other unsuccessful films and made his last film appearance in Zimmedaar which released in 1990. He then turned to producing and directing. He produced Henna (1991) which was directed by his brother Randhir and then made his directorial debut with PremGranth (1996) which starred his brother Rishi and Madhuri Dixit. After that film became a "disaster" at the box office,[1] he didn't direct again.
In 1999 he produced Aa Ab Laut Chalen which was directed by his brother Rishi. Since then he has not been active in film producing or directing. In 2001, he married an architect Aarti Sabharal, but the marriage ended in divorce two years later. [2] He is currently attending Nipissing University

HYDERABAD: Film actor Chiranjeevi on Thursday made it clear that he would celebrate his 53rd birthday on Friday with his mother and spend quality time with the family, as he was not sure whether he could spare time in future, having decided to enter politics.
In tune with his decision, he reiterated his appeal to fans not to rush to Hyderabad to greet him. He asked each one of them to plant a tree instead, to show their love for him. In what was a first since his political entry, he joined presspersons for lunch. Initially reluctant to talk, the absence of cameras around him appeared to loosen his diplomatic cloak.
He said though former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was a powerful influence on him, he could not term anyone as an ‘icon’ among contemporary politicians, as he was inspired by one good trait in each of them. As in the earlier press conference, he refused to be drawn into debate over controversies like allotment of land for Special Economic Zones and the displacement of farmers.
The actor turned the tables on scribes by jocularly asking, “How do your family members put up with you? Do you ask questions even while having food?” He went on to say he would probably need to eat again in an hour’s time, as he was tired out by the relentless questioning by journalists.
Asked if he practised yoga or meditation to show such high levels of motivation, he said, “Meditation means focussing attention on a single object and I am now firmly concentrating on service to people through politics. I find it relaxing.”
Earlier, a former MLC, Kamineni Srinivas from Kaikalur in Krishna district and S. Chandrasekhar, a doctor and son of former Minister Simhadri Satyanarayana, joined his party. To a query why so many doctors were joining his camp, he said, “Wait and see. I am sure many more from different walks of life will join hands with me.”
On whether his August 26 public meeting would be ‘filmi’, Mr. Chiranjeevi had a repartee ready. “It will not be in filmi style, but in people’s style,” he quipped.

Born in 1952 Irani made her debut in the movie Gunga Jumna (1961) at nine years old playing Vyjayantimala's character as a child. After doing several small roles in films like Jahanara (1964), Farz (1967), Upkar (1967) and Aaya Sawan Jhoomke (1969), and pairing with comedian Mehmood in films like Aulad (1968), Humjoli (1970), and Naya Zamana (1971), she finally shot to fame with her brilliant performance as an aggressive gypsy woman in the super hit Caravan (1971). By that time, however, she was emotionally involved with Mehmood and did not focus fully on her career. Their relationship also ruined the chances of her getting the heroine's roles. Yet, Mehmood gave her lead roles opposite the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Mehra in the films that he made: Bombay To Goa (1972), Garam Masala (1972), and Do Phool (1973).
The success as a heroine still eluded her, and ironically, the newer actors and actresses that she supported became stars while acting with her: Jeetendra in Farz(1967), Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in Bobby (1973), Jayaprada in Sargam (1979), Kumar Gaurav in Love Story (1981), Sanjay Dutt in Rocky (1981). She ended up doing vampish and supporting roles, mainly because her memorable performance in Caravan had already typecast her in such roles. To her credit, however, Aruna Irani seriously took each role and delivered nice performances, thus endearing herself to filmmakers and creating a niche for herself. No other actress of her time could have done full justice to her role of a seductress out to rob the teenage hero Rishi Kapoor off his innocence in Bobby (1973). Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s she appeared in several supporting roles, notably Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974), Do Jhooth (1975), Khel Khel Mein (1975), Bhanwar (1976), Fakira (1976), Laila Majnu (1976), Sargam (1979), Qurbani (1980), Aas Paas (1980), Love Story (1981)and Kudrat (1981). She finally won her first Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Pet Pyaar Aur Paap (1984). In the late 1980s and 1990s she switched to playing motherly roles, notably in Beta (1992) for which she won her second Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. She also got very famous acting in many Gujarati films and some way changed trend and played as main protagonist.

Happy Birthday Sridevi May God Bless You...........

Bollywood's all time favorite Queen Bee, Sridevi celebrated her 46th birthday last night with her family.
And to make the occasion special Sri’s two pretty daughters Jahnavi, 12 and Khusi, 8 decorated the house. Getting away for a few minutes from the chaos of organizing a small birthday get-together, Sri excitedly informed us, “My daughters, I can see, have devoted the last two days planning out this day.
My husband has some grand plans, I assume. And all the excitement has rubbed onto me as well.”
So who all invited for this quiet celebration? “Right now it’s just family, but you never know. My family may just decide to spring a surprise for me,” she said delightedly.
Birthdays mean gifts galore. “I wouldn’t like to share what Boneyji has gifted me, but I can tell you that it’s something wearable.
It’s beautiful and I plan to wear it tonight. However, the gifts that are closest to my heart are those given by my daughters. They’ve been writing beautiful letters and making birthday cards for me every year. There’s nothing more special and memorable for me,” gushed the doting mother.
Birthdays are more than just cakes and candles for this lovely lady. “Before I married Boneyji, I religiously used to visit Tirupathi on my birthdays. Other than that, visiting orphanages and old age homes were my priorities, after which I used to return home and celebrate the day with my sisters. Those days were so beautiful and carefree”, recalls the Sadma actress fondly “But birthday celebrations have changed for me now. It’s more about spending time with family. They are special, because I feel complete with family.”
And maybe it’s this ‘completeness’ that makes her so beautiful even today. “I think I look better today than I did yesterday,” she confesses, “That’s because I am happy. I feel a positive energy around me all the time. It’s very important to be happy and stress free, otherwise you age faster than you can imagine.”
