Rajesh Roshan's father was one of the all time great music composers of all times.Rajesh was more interested in taking up a job in an office with fixed timings.After Roshan Saab’s death his mother (Ila Roshan) started learning music under Faiyaz Ahmed Khan Saheb. Although he wasn’t much interested in learning music Rajesh used to sit with his mother . Gradually Rajesh began to get interested in what he was learning.Rajesh understood the minutest detail of composing music.

He quit studies when he was doing his college and approached Laxmikant Pyarelal who were extremely famous at that time. Rajesh shared a special relationship with Laxmikant, as the latter was very fond of him.Rajesh assisted Laxmikant Pyarelal for five years and Laxmikant never even felt once that this man would become his rival one-day. He worked with Laxmikant Pyarelal for several films right from V Shantaram’s Jal Been Machli to Raj Kapoor’s Bobby. Rajesh Roshan was very good friends with Shaukat Ali and Anwar Ali both of whom were Mehmood’s brothers. They introduced him to Mehmood was launching Kunwara BaapRajesh composed some scores of which Mehmood was very impressed and he signed him on as music director for Kunwara Baap . The same film happenend to be his first break. Mehmood and Rajesh Roshan had a long lasting relationship as he composed the music for all of Mehmood’s films.

Rajesh first film that tasted success was Julie.It had very good tracks like ' Julie i Love You', ' My heart is beating ' .. But even Lulie's success couldnot get much assignments for Rajesh . Rajesh Roshan paired up with director Basu Chatterjee to compose hit scores in films like Swami, Khatta Meetha, Des Pardesand Baaton Baaton Mein. Lata Mnageshkar's ‘Pal Bhar Mein Yeh Kya Ho Gaya’ from Swami is considered to be one of her best songs.

Rajesh rendered music to Amitabh Bachchan films like Khuddar, Mr. Natwarlal, Do Aur Do Paanch and Yaarana all of which had excellent music.

His later releases were Khudgarz, Khoon Bhari Maang, Kishen Kanhaiya, Khel, King Uncle, Karan Arjun or Koyla all the movies had wonderful music. In the year 1999 Rakesh Roshan launched his son Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Na Pyar Hai whoes music was

After the mega hit Rajesh got busy doing his next releases like Moksh, Aap Mujhe Aache Lagne Lage, and Koi Mil Gaya. While Moksh and Aap Mujhe Aache Lagne Lage didnt have much to talk about except for a few numbers , Rajesh was back to the top with Koi Mil Gaya music hitting the music charts. The film's box office collection was too good and picked up many awards.
